Guelitos and Galveston!

We were blessed to have Art's parents spend the Christmas holidays with us and Gavin was very, VERY excited to spend the holidays with his Guelitos! :-) They have never been to Galveston; so here are some pics from that day trip...

This Baby Loves Food!

Slade turned 4 months on December 17th. He had his doctor visit and the Pediatrician asked that I start mixing stage 1 jar foods in his cereal once he's comfortable with eating cereal from a spoon. Slade's been eating cereal for a couple of weeks; so I mixed the jar food in his cereal right away. His doctor suggested mixing a fruit in the morning and vegetable at the dinner feeding. Gavin picked banana and squash and Slade loves it and is a great eater! He also had 2 shots. He reacted by making the noise, "Eh!"... that's it. The nurse told me that babies are supposed to cry like crazy, but I reminded her that mine don't. Maybe she's not doing it right? Slade kept his 50th percentile trend for length, weight and head size and is normal with all his benchmarks for his age. He also pushes himself up during tummy time and is ABOUT to roll over... We're very proud of our strong, little guy! :-)

After Slade finishes his cereal he likes to down 4 oz of formula...

We're So Proud of Slade!

Slade has done very well with tummy time. I started him at 2 months with 5 minutes once a day and he didn't fuss at all. I soon bumped him up to 7 minutes still once a day and he would fuss at the end which I felt was normal. But you know the Ortegas roll... and that little fussing wasn't going to deter mama from challenging Mr. Slade! Not when he's being such a sport.... He's a week shy of 3 months now and he does tummy time for 10 minutes twice a day quite successfully with little complaining. He's a champ!

Today Slade tried cereal from a spoon for the first time. To my surprise it was a success! He opened his mouth, swallowed... down the hatch without any mess! Ok, so I shouldn't say NO mess a couple of times I missed his mouth... There was no mess on Slade's part though. He's like a baby bird. He loves the stuff! He'll be 3 months on November 17th. Beginners luck? Maybe, we'll see tonight when he has his dinner. Below is a pic of Slade and Gavin with Slade's first big boy toy. Thank you to the Forbes family for the fun Croc Block Wagon! Slade has been in awe as Gavin teaches him how it works. :-)

Our Baby Boy is 2 Months!

Slade turned 2 months on October 17th. He had his wellness check-up today and yes, it involved shots... 3 of them! He fussed a little, then took one look at that nurse as if to say, "Is that all you got?" The nurse said, "Ooh, he's a tough one... most of the babies cry for a long time and scream like crazy." One of them was oral. It was a liquid; so he lucked out on that one. He's in the 50th percentile across the board for weight, height and the size of his head for his age. Slade's also big on cooing, smiling, laughing and he's very alert. He loves to look around as well... he doesn't skip a beat! He really likes to be interacted with; which is good because Gavin is a motormouth... :-) And if you look closely in the background of this pic; that would be Gavin wearing his Halloween costume already. Y'all know he LOVES Super Mario Bros; so guess what his costume is? Yep... so ya he likes to play dress up with his Mario costume... We're gonna get our $20 worth out of THAT one! :-)

Family Day at the Texans Game!

Like father, like son... making the same face and SO into the game! Slade did well. He did not fuss one time. He stayed awake half of the time. And when he was asleep he wasn't phased a bit by the very noisy stadium! Now Art wants season tickets... Right before the game Art went to Best Buy to get Gavin noise canceling headphones that connect to his DS and he played it a lot during the game. It helped considering a 6 year old's attention span is quite short. Great idea Art! Gavin did love the game though and can't wait to go back... It would have been better if the Texans didn't get stomped by the Giants though! :-(

Gavin loves him some Slade...

Dad duty... and Mr. Slade got a lot of attention from passers by too. :-)

Guess what this one was eating...

Look at these two... Yep, right down to the shoes. They are too much! The kicker is, Gav did match his Dad's jersey on purpose. The rest of their outfit was an accident.

Just Some Pics...

1 month

We call this one "party pooper" because we took Gavin to a party for one of his friends and THIS is what Slade did the entire time we were there... I guess most would consider him sleeping a good thing!
We put Gavin up against any big bro... he is hands down the best! And Slade lights up when he sees Gav coming. He loves his big brother already. Gavin talks to him non-stop, as you can imagine already and Slade eats it up!
Slade has grown so much in his first month on this planet. This is an appropriate outfit for this story... Right at a week old he started eating 5 oz a feeding. He had a growth spurt at 2 weeks and 3 weeks! He finally slowed down on the eating now; so sometimes he'll eat 4 oz, but he'll still take that 5 oz too at times! He's gonna be a big one!

Announcing Slade Michael Ortega!

Slade Michael Ortega

Born August 17th ~ Weight 7 lbs 3 oz ~ Length 20 1/2 inches ~ Time 1:27 pm
Yes, seeing is believing... Slade is 2 days old and feeding himself! Art was feeding him and the next time I looked up Slade was holding the bottle himself. It lasted for a few minutes and I excitedly asked Art to hurry and take a picture because it's kind of like the big fish story. I told him no one would ever believe us if we didn't take a picture; so there you have it...

Pet Corner

 Ruby

Kitty Kitten

Shorty
Mazy

I finally found/took pictures of all of our pets; so here's the break down: Ruby is our newest pet. We found her right before Christmas when she was 2 weeks old. She wasn't ready to leave her mom until she was 8 weeks; which happened to fall on Art's bday. She's very sweet, smart and fun. Kitty Kitten is two years old. We got her Easter weekend, 2013. She loves the outdoors, is an awesome hunter and a very sweet cat. Shorty, the Red Eared Slider turtle that Gavin and I rescued from crossing a busy street several summers ago. Mazy the orange Tabby is 18 years old. I got her when I was in college right before I met Art. She has the biggest personality that I've ever seen in a cat. She also "talks" a lot. There's always one that needs a bath, some food/water, wants to go in or out, a change of water in their tank and/or wants attention. They definitely keep us on our toes, but we love them all!
